I am a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, with a joint appointment in the Department of Geography and the International Institute. Broadly conceived, my research concerns the political and geographical dynamics of war, violence and peace, or what I call conflict geographies. Topics of particular interest include geopolitics, ethnic conflict, nationalism, intrastate war, postwar peacebuilding, Southeast European politics, military labor, military contracting, and the militarization of U.S. society and foreign policy.
